I recently bought both her books about Tunisian crochet ("Get Hooked on Tunisian Crochet" and "Tunisian Crochet Encore") and I must say I absolutely love them. Her way of explaining things is just so good, and her projects are beautiful yet practical items one can actually wear in everyday life. Hello readers! Snow has finally arrived, though late indeed, and it inspired me to create a new item with some yarn I had in stash. First, let me tell you a bit about this yarn: it's called "Kuki" by Borgo de' Pazzi , a pretty famous Italian brand which produces some lovely, high quality yarns. "Kuki" is made of wool (65%), nettle (20%) and hemp (15%), so a very interesting mix as you can see. It feels soft on skin but has great structure, so I really recommend to try it out should you happen to find it! Now, about the pattern. First, you can find it here . As you can see it's a quite huge cowl made in classic crochet, and it's pretty easy to realize too: all you need to know is how to crochet chains, simple and double stitches, and these instructions will guide you through the process in the most accurate way. Hello fellow crafters! How's your new year going? I've been busy working on several projects, a couple of which I'm gonna show you today: these are two scarves I made for one of my friends' Mum, both using my beloved Tunisian crochet, first one in arrowhead stitch, second one in simple stitch. Do you think these will be appreciated? Also on my hooks are a cardigan which I'm also writing a pattern for (hear ye, hear ye!), and a crobaktus made with regular crochet (this will have a pattern soon, too), so as usual I don't have much time to write on my blog. This is the main reason why I've decided not to write in Italian on this blog anymore: it takes too much of my time, and since most of my readers are from other countries anyway I don't really see the point anymore, soo... well, that's about it. A cascade of fallen leaves that I can always bring with me! Una cascata di foglie da portare sempre con me! Do I have to write much about this shawl? I don't think so, I'll just say some basic things: I love these Autumny shades, and I absolutely love this leafy pattern, so guess what? I'm in love with the finished shawl! : ) It's big enough to wrap around the torso and be tied behind the back - consider I'm 1.75m tall and not exactly thin... A long awaited week off took me to my beloved Sea, which I had not visited since January... did I miss her? I hadn't realized how much untill I got there and saw her magnificence again...  Luckily I brought along this wool which I bought some weeks ago: I intended to use it for a friend, but you know what? I decided to keep it for me and make something which reminds me of the Sea. A shawl, of course, whose pattern somehow makes me think about the waves, and the colours, well, they speak for themselves, I believe... I managed to finish the shawl a couple of days before coming back home, so I was able to wear it on some beach walks and take pictures of it. Now I'm back on the mountains and I'm enjoying wearing some warm Autumny colours, but I think this one will look just as fine amid the falling snow this Winter...  Oh, and in case you're interested, here 's the pattern... Well, as you know, it's hot. Incredibly hot. And I can't stand it, so I barely crochet anything these days. I've started a shawl so long ago I can't remember when and I'm adding a row a day - barely, as I said. But this doily, my very first one, took only a few hours to make, and it was fun: a present for my MIL's birthday, a few days ahead. She loves bright pink and bright colours in general, so when I found this thread I thought I'd use it to make something for her, and here it is! Green is one of the colors I love the most, in all its shades, especially the darker ones - but why not try and wear something a bit lighter for once?  I made this Elise Shawl with a linen & cotton yarn, soft and natural, just what you need for late Spring and Summer. Let me tell you, I immediately fell in love with all the shades this yarn had, they reminded me of the woods, the new leaves, the white flowers, the clouds on the top of the mountains... all the things that I love! As I began to crochet this shawl, I couldn't help but notice how these shades just "worked" with the pattern, you know what I mean? I made a very big shawl as you can see (that's me in the picture, and I'm 1.75 m tall, just to give you an idea of just how big it is), and I just love it! I can't believe how long it's been since my last post. I'd like to have something more to say, or better yet, I'd like to have more time to think about what to write and really write it down. But unfortunately, I don't. I'm sorry my blog isn't more inspirational, as many of yours are, I wish it was. It's just one of those moments, you know... I'm so busy with too many things. So, want to know what I'm up to these days? Well, there you go: I enjoy long walks in the woods together with my boyfriend every weekend (we're so lucky, I know, and I'm oh so thankful!). I crochet (and knit a bit) every time I can, though not as much as I wish. I try and take good care of my plants and especially my beloved cacti, which continue to grow in number and are preparing to bloom, some of them for the first time, and that's exciting. ... The harp, the Shamrock,  Green, white and gold... I almost never write about my love for Celtic culture, I don't really know why; but it's somethind deep rooted in my spirit, a connection that only grows stronger as years go by.  I had the chance to write my bachelor's degree thesis about W. B. Yeats and the Celtic elements within the folk traditions of Éire, a few years back, and thanks to this I got to know Irish culture much better than I did, though I still haven't had the occasion to visit the place. Needless to say, I love everything related: mythology, folklore, traditions... Plus, I absolutely love green, so: a few years later, here's my tiny tribute to the Emerald Isle of Éire, or Ireland, if you wish. : ) What do you think? I know it's simple looking (and simple to make, in fact), but I really like the way it turned out, and I'm quite proud of my shamrocks all around... Hello in there! It's been too long since I shared with you some crochet - not that I forgot my hooks, not at all, it's just that there's never enough time to take nice pictures of the new creations, so I'm a little behind myself... Well, anyway, here's an item I'm really happy with: a neckwarmer that can also be worn as a kind of open slouchy hat. It took me just a few hours and 150 g of wonderfully soft merinos wool to make it, and it's so warm and cosy! Working with a 6 mm hook on this project was what I needed between my baby cardigans knitting on tiny needles, I had such a relaxing time, and I'm really satisfied with the way it turned out.  The pattern is my own and incredibly easy, I'm thinking about writing it down and publishing it for free on Ravelry, what do you think? Today I'd like to show you a shawl I made... well, about a couple of months ago in fact! It was meant to be a gift for a friend, but I've finally been able to give it to her only today, so I couldn't show you before, since she visits my blog from time to time. The pattern, you may know it, is the pretty famous "Seraphina's Shawl" by Doni's Stuff (in case you're not familiar with it you can get it on Ravelry for free, and I highly recommend it: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/seraphinas-shawl ).  I used a thin wool, Four Seasons Gründl Hot Socks Spectra , shade 50, and it took me quite some time to finish, but I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. Vi ricordate i guanti con la treccia che vi avevo presentato il mese scorso? Do you remember the cabled fingerless gloves I talked about last month?    Visto il successo riscosso ho pensato di scriverne lo schema e di arricchirlo con foto esplicative dei passaggi più complicati. Lo schema è stato gentilmente testato dalla cara Nata (sotto una foto di quelli che ha realitzzato lei) ed è disponibile in formato .pdf sia in italiano che in inglese (US terms). I guanti sono taglia unica e si adattano ad essere indossati da tutti; in caso di necessità particolari prima di modificare il numero di punti spesso è sufficiente provare con un filato più sottile o più spesso o un uncinetto diverso. Ciao a tutte le mie lettrici! Sono stata a lungo lontana dal blog, ma non sono stata inattiva per quanto riguarda i progetti all'uncinetto, tutt'altro. Il fatto è che ci sono tante cose da mostrare, ma anche tanto da fare in questi giorni, quindi arrivati a questo punto rimanderò tutto a Novembre.  Il mese di Ottobre è così, in bilico tra l'autunno e l'inverno, tra la luce e il buio... con Samhain alle porte si tende ad essere introspettivi, a guardare indietro verso cosa abbiamo fatto e in avanti verso quello che ci auguriamo di riuscire a fare... insomma, tra i pensieri e gli impegni mi è rimasto davvero poco tempo da dedicare a questo piccolo spazio virtuale.  In ogni caso oggi ho deciso di condividere con voi un progetto realizzato il mese scorso. E' iniziato uno dei miei mesi preferiti dell'anno. Le giornate si stanno visibilmente accorciando, le temperature scendono, le nebbie sottili abbracciano gli alberi e le loro foglie si colorano e volano accompagnate dai venti dell'autunno. Per inaugurare al meglio questa bellissima stagione mi sono regalata uno scialle nelle sfumature che tra poco assumeranno le fronde intorno a me. Nell'ultimo post vi ho mostrato un campione di lavoro chiedendovi di indovinare quale tecnica stessi imparando. Solo Franca Rita e Sophie hanno azzardato delle ipotesi, e con mia somma soddisfazione entrambe hanno pensato alla maglia. Non so quante di voi sanno che io e i ferri non siamo affatto buoni amici: ho provato ad imparare la maglia un sacco di volte, ma non va proprio. Potrei farmene una ragione, ma l'aspetto del lavoro a maglia mi piace troppo, perciò ho cercato delle alternative che coinvolgessero l'uncinetto. Dapprima ho imparato alcuni punti utili con l'uncinetto tunisino (e ve li mostrerò prossimamente), poi per caso su una bancarella al mercato ho trovato un aggeggio di cui avevo solo letto, e che ho comprato devo ammettere con un po' di perplessità, pensando che non sarei riuscita a cavarne niente di buono. Mi sono accorta che è passato un sacco di tempo dall'ultima volta che vi ho mostrato un mio lavoro all'uncinetto. Non pensiate che non abbia più lavorato, anzi, sto imparando diverse nuove tecniche che mi portano via molto tempo, ma qualche lavoretto sono comunque riuscita a finirlo, come questa tovaglietta. Quando ho visto questo cotone l'ho comprato al volo, come sempre senza sapere di preciso cosa ne avrei fatto - mi piaceva troppo il colore. Poi l'ispirazione: perché non provare a fare una tovaglietta per l'ora del tea? Essendo di una sfumatura così vivace credo che ispiri il buonumore solo a guardarla, e il motivo granny secondo me non stanca mai. Voi cosa ne pensate? Quale colore sarebbe più adatto per andare a passeggiare nei boschi rigogliosi alla ricerca del fresco?  Il verde è uno dei miei colori preferiti, soprattutto nelle tonalità più scure, mi ricorda le grandi foreste misteriose e indossarlo mi trasmette sempre una sensazione positiva. Chi mi è vicino lo sa, il che spiega questo cotone regalatomi quest'inverno dai miei genitori, troppo fine perché io mi cimentassi nel lavorarlo, ma per fortuna la mia mamma ha più pazienza di me, e questo è il risultato del suo lavoro: un bellissimo scialle realizzato a filet! Qualche tempo fa mi sono "regalata" una fascia per capelli composta da una serie di granny squares di cotone nero, molto semplice, il classico complemento da indossare con tutto, per comodità. Devo dire però che le care vecchie mattonelle della nonna fanno sempre la loro figura, perché nel giro di pochi giorni mi è stato chiesto di realizzarne una, questa di un colore più vivace, che la sua futura proprietaria ha scelto tra i gomitoli a a mia disposizione (quanto è comodo a volte avere un'esagerazione di filati!).  Detto fatto, un paio di giorni dopo la sua fascia estiva e colorata è pronta per essere indossata!
