Weaving Olden Patterns

Hello darlings! I know, I know: I promised I would have written more often, and I didn't - I'm an awful blogger. Truth is, I'm always too busy, and when I happen to have some free time, blogland is not really my priority. Neither are crochet and knitting, these days, to be honest: weekends out on the mountains and my cacti are, so I thought I'd share with you all some of my best loved ones, Rebutias. They're one of the species I love the most: they're small, cute, often clumping plants, with wonderful and colourful flowers. They come from the mountains of Bolivia and Argentina, and their marvelous flowers announce that Summer is coming. So let me wish you a very happy warm season with these cuties. April, come she will, When streams are ripe and swelled with rain... Don't you just love the coming of Springtime? The Nature comes back to life almost suddendly, and year after year I'm struck by the amazingness all around me. Il velo tra i mondi è particolarmente sottile, il vento freddo da Nord racconta antiche leggende e fra le nebbie riusciamo a sentire arcani sussurri... The veil between the worlds is really thin these days, the cold wind from the North tells us of ancient legends and through the mists we are able to hear mysterious whispers... Proprio come questo fiore segna l'arrivo dell'estate, questa piantina sfoggia i suoi ombrellini colorati quando l'Autunno è alle porte... allora, per celebrare l'Equinozio e per augurarvi una buona stagione di raccolto, sperando che cogliate frutti meravigliosi, condivido con voi questa foto, un piccolo pensiero.  Just like these flowers bloom when Summer is coming, these ones bloom when Autumn's at the door... so, to celebrate the Equinox and to wish you all a merry harvest season, hoping you'll ripe some wonderful fruits, I'll share with you this photo as a small gift for you all. Nel caso vi interessasse saperlo, la pianta in questione è un Sedum spectabile, ed oltre ad essere molto generosa al momento della fioritura è estremamente resistente sia al gelo (alla fine della fioritura perde la parte aerea, che rinasce verso la fine dell'inverno) che al caldo, e in più i fiori risultano molto appetitosi per farfalle, api e altri insetti. Q...

Manco da tanto all'appuntamento del venerdì con Laura e le altre... ma stasera ci sono, per condividere con voi un piccolo momento di serenità spinosa... : ) Un ricordo di uno dei rari giorni di sole di questa settimana, un fiore dalle sfumature delicate che è riuscito ad aprirsi solo per poche ore... la magia di queste piantine mi incanta sempre... I've been missing various Fridays with Laura and the other girls... but this evening I'm here to share with you all a little moment of thorny serenity... : ) A memory from one of the rare days of sunshine that we had this week, a delicate flower that's been able to fully bloom for just a few hours... these little plant's magic always enchants me...

La notte ha sempre una magia particolare che sfugge anche al più bello dei giorni... Night's always magical in a way that eludes even the brightest day... Appuntamento del venerdì con le mie spinose, anche questa settimana piuttosto in forma con le fioriture...  Un piccolo pensiero per le mie lettrici e per Laura , sperando di rileggerla presto. Friday meeting with my thorny friends, they've been quite flowery this week, as well... A small thought for my readers, and for Laura , hoping to hear from her again soon.

Oggi un pensiero per Laura . Coltivare cactus ai piedi dei monti è una piccola avventura, e soprattutto quando arrivano il gelo e la neve un po' di apprensione non me la leva nessuno. Eppure i miei amici spinosi si trovano bene qui da me, nella bella stagione si godono il sole brillante e i venti freschi della sera, e quando le temperature scendono non si lasciano intimorire: semplicemente, si riposano per qualche mese, pronti a ricominciare a crescere appena torna il caldo. Dico sempre che dalle piante si può imparare tanto, e il mio augurio per Laura è di riuscire a fare come queste creature piene di risorse, capaci di adattarsi a qualunque circostanza e di diventare sempre più forti, malgrado le condizioni non sempre ottimali con cui si devono confrontare.  Questi fiorellini piccoli, ma forti, sono il mio pensiero per te. Partecipo al ritrovo del venerdì di Laura condividendo altre foto dei miei amici spinosi (incredibile che sia già passata una settimana!!). In questi giorni si stanno beando del caldo e ogni giorno mi hanno regalato fioriture spettacolari, perciò ne condivido un paio con voi. La terza piantina non è (ovviamente) un cactus, bensì una varietà di cineraria, la Jacobaea maritima . Forse come me l'avrete visto crescere su spiagge rocciose, qui da me è molto diffuso come pianta da bordura, ma devo dire che anche in vaso si trova molto bene, e resiste senza fare una piega al sole battente e al gelo dell'inverno... tant'è che quest'anno ha anche deciso di fiorire! Non ho dimenticato l'uncinetto, ma purtroppo non sono riuscita a fare delle belle foto per presentarvi le mie ultime creazioni, che invece le meriterebbero, perciò rimando, spero di poter rimediare al più presto... Ci sono i nuovi arrivi che si preparano a stupire, regali speciali che ogni giorno mi fanno battere forte il cuore... There are some new friends who are getting ready to surprise us, special gifts that make my heart pound every day... C'è chi è un po' timido... There are some shy ones... E come sempre c'è chi ama farsi notare... And of course, there's someone who likes to be looked at... Grazie Laura per questa bella idea, spero di riuscire a partecipare con costanza in futuro... ...

Giugno è arrivato da qualche giorno, perciò sono un po' in ritardo, ma vi auguro un buon inizio di mese, in attesa dell'arrivo dell'estate, e per farlo vi regalo un fiorellino di una pianta che da me sboccia puntuale ogni anno proprio a giugno, so che è quasi estate quando fiorisce.  A presto!
