Free pattern and memories / Schema gratuito e ricordi

Hello everybody!
I've been away from my blog for quite some time, and I can't say it's been a pleasant couple of weeks. I'm back to share with you the instructions for the baby cardigan I showed you in my latest post.

I made that cardigan for the nephew of one of my Granny's dearest friend. She loved it very much, but unfortunately she couldn't give it to her friend, as my Granny got sick and passed away last week.
I'm very far from being over it and still can't manage to find some decent words in her memory.
The best thing that came to my mind is this: I thought I'd share with you the pattern of this item. Granny was an avid knitter and was oh so proud of me when I told her I finally learnt how to knit, so I hope this sharing will make her smile.

Let me know if the instructions are clear enough, and of course if you decide to knit one yourself tell me how it comes out!

Ciao a tutte!

PATTERN for 0-6 MONTHS BABY CARDIGAN:

What you need:

100 g wool
3.5 mm needles (US 4)
3 or 3.5 mm hook (US C-E)
Wool needle

Gauge:

23-26 stitches x 48 needles (garter stitch) = 10 cm x 10 cm

Instructions:

Back:

Cast 58 stitches on your needles and work in garter stitch for 102 rows. Close and cut the thread.
The back should be about 26.5 cm large and 27 cm long.

Front parts:

For the part without the buttonhole cast 28 stitches and work in garter stitch for 102 rows.
For the part with the buttonhole cast 28 stitches again, work them in garter stitch for 60 rows, or until you reach the point where you’d like to place the button or the ribbon, and make the eyelet you like best. Go on normally for the remaining rows, close and cut the thread.
Each part should be about 12.5 cm large and 27 cm long.

Sleeves:

For each sleeve cast 35 stitches and work them in garter stitch for 82 rows. Close and cut the thread.
The sleeves should be about 16 cm large and 20 cm long.

Putting the parts together:

If you, like me, don’t like to sew, you can crochet the parts together with a US single crochet (UK dc) edge, perhaps with a different colored thread, so to get a nice contrasting effect. I used a 3 mm (US D?) hook and a white yarn, but the mixes are endless!
Once you put the parts together you can fix the higher tips of the front parts with a couple of stitches to give them the look of a proper collar, or you can let them free, as you like best.
Add the button or the ribbon you chose, and here’s your baby cardigan!

SCHEMA per GOLFINO 0-6 MESI:

Occorrente:

100 g lana

Ferri 3.5 mm

Uncinetto 3-3.5 mm

Ago da lana

Campione:

23-26 maglie x 48 ferri (maglia rasata a diritto) = 10 cm x 10 cm

Procedimento:

Schiena:

Ti abbraccio forte !

Finished! / Finito!

Hello ladies! How was your weekend? Hope it all goes well! I'm here to show my finally finished baby cardigan, remember ? I've already told you about the wool I used in my latest post, so I won't bore you any longer - just a quick note: if you happen to find it and you've got some knitting baby project in mind definitely try it out! It's thin but grows quickly, it's incredibly soft and it took me less than 100 g on 3.5 mm needles to finish this cardigan, which should fit a 6 months old. Ciao a tutte! Com'è andato il fine settimana? Spero tutto bene!

Bye, Blogger

I'll write on my  WordPress blog only, from now on, so if you want to follow me you'll find me there. I won't delete this blog, as I'm attached to it and it reminds me of the road I travelled so far, but at least for now I won't update it anymore.

And here's the Dragon! / Ecco il Drago!

Remember the Dragon Tail scarf/shawl I began some time ago? Well, last week I managed to finish it, and I'm oh so proud of it. Not only it's my first Tunisian crochet project, but it also turned out great, big and cosy and oh so soft (this thanks to the lovely yarn Géraldine sent me, Phil Bambou Laine by Phildar). It is 2 m long from tip to tip and 45 cm wide by the last scale, and the last row counts 110 stitches, which are quite a lot... : ) As I already wrote I strongly recommend this if you want to try Tunisian crochet, it's easy, good fun and you get a nice original item to wear. You might find this tutorial by Julia Marquardt helpful, but if you want to get one that's exactly like mine you have to change the pattern a little bit: I followed the instructions by a great designer, MariaGrazia Berno , who modified it a bit in order to obtain a scarf/shawl that curls up more. Her pattern says to increase of two stitches at the end of every row, just before the se
