Thunderstorm / Temporale

Away, ye gay landscapes, ye gardens o' roses,
In you let the minions of luxury rove.
Restore me the rocks where snowflake reposes,
If still they are sacred to freedom and love.
Brave Caledonia, dear are thy mountains,
Round their white summits though elements war.
Tho’ cataracts roar ‘stead of smooth flowing fountains
I sigh for the valleys o’ dark Lochnagar

{George Gordon, Lord Byron, "Lachin y Gair" or "Dark Lochnagar"; *traduzione mia}

I'm a hopeless Romantic, just so you know, and this is the kind of Summer weather I love: no sticky sunny days, give me thunder and lightning and I'm a happy woman...

Torrente Pesio
You see, yet another post that's got nothing to do with any kind of craft. Shall I open a new blog to talk about other things? Might be an idea, but indulge me once more if you wish, then we'll see...
Are you all in the Northern Hempishere enjoying Summer? You might know I don't really like hot weather, if not for the flowers it brings (you guessed it, uh?), long days out on my beloved mountains, and... thunderstorms. Well, I don't really enjoy being caught in a thunderstorm while I'm trekking, it's scary and can be dangerous, but I love all the lightning and thundering and the marvelous smell of the trees and grass afterwards...
Anyway, want to know something about the place in the pictures? Well, they were taken a few km from where we live, in a valley called Valle Pesio, one of the places around here we love the most. Pesio is the name of the torrent that flows through the valley itself, and we finally managed to see its very spring, called Pis del Peis ("Pesio's piss", can you guess why?;) ) - isn't that exciting? We started walking at 1.030 m from a meadow called Pian delle Gorre ("Springs' Plain", but I'm not really sure of the term "Gorre"), and went up to 1.215 where we found another meadow neamed Gias Fontana ("Fountain Meadow"): not an impressive climb at all, but the place we discovered was just magic, as we find the whole valley to be - hence the need to visit it at least once or twice every month. : )
We couldn't really arrive at the spring because it started raining, so we walked back, just to find ourselves in the middle of a thunderstorm, in the middle of a pine forest.
Terrifying? To say the least.
Fascinating? But of course!

PS:  if you don't know the poem "Dark Lochnagar" by Lord Byron I suggest you to go and read it, for it's beautiful, and if you want a musical version listen to this amazing song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iwn28X3szrg

Vi state godendo l'estate?
Terrificante? A dir poco.
Affascinante? Altroché!

  6. Nice poems and great pics, thanks for sharing! Normally I liked thunderstorms (watching from inside the house ;-)), but since we had a hole in our house's roof after the last violent storm I'm watching them with mixed emotions. I love sunny summer weather, temperatures up to 34°C are o.k. for me. But everything over that I don't like, too. The last days we had around 40°C, phew, we were grilled and melted away at the same time :o). Have a good week! Nata xxx

Finished! / Finito!

Hello ladies! How was your weekend? Hope it all goes well! I'm here to show my finally finished baby cardigan, remember ? I've already told you about the wool I used in my latest post, so I won't bore you any longer - just a quick note: if you happen to find it and you've got some knitting baby project in mind definitely try it out! It's thin but grows quickly, it's incredibly soft and it took me less than 100 g on 3.5 mm needles to finish this cardigan, which should fit a 6 months old. Ciao a tutte! Com'è andato il fine settimana? Spero tutto bene!

Bye, Blogger

I'll write on my  WordPress blog only, from now on, so if you want to follow me you'll find me there. I won't delete this blog, as I'm attached to it and it reminds me of the road I travelled so far, but at least for now I won't update it anymore.

And here's the Dragon! / Ecco il Drago!

Remember the Dragon Tail scarf/shawl I began some time ago? Well, last week I managed to finish it, and I'm oh so proud of it. Not only it's my first Tunisian crochet project, but it also turned out great, big and cosy and oh so soft (this thanks to the lovely yarn Géraldine sent me, Phil Bambou Laine by Phildar). It is 2 m long from tip to tip and 45 cm wide by the last scale, and the last row counts 110 stitches, which are quite a lot... : ) As I already wrote I strongly recommend this if you want to try Tunisian crochet, it's easy, good fun and you get a nice original item to wear. You might find this tutorial by Julia Marquardt helpful, but if you want to get one that's exactly like mine you have to change the pattern a little bit: I followed the instructions by a great designer, MariaGrazia Berno , who modified it a bit in order to obtain a scarf/shawl that curls up more. Her pattern says to increase of two stitches at the end of every row, just before the se
